As google stands witness, Nureyev was big on stage and big between his legs. But this is not about him, though a sort of tribute, it is.
I mixed the hyper torso with the idea of a ballet dancer, the Russian strength with perfection of the arts (present day Russian disturbances excluded).
And if you look closer, the passage of the tool which helped me make this figurine, is still visible. I love the rebellion Rodin expressed in his sculptural finishes, he’s a great inspiration (and we’re also born on the same day & month). And as most of my sculptures, it doesn’t need a base. It stands on its own, though it requires one care for its precariousness.
In all my works I make sure the passage of the pencil, brush, fingers or chisel can be seen. The art that I make wants you to remember that art exists on her own, has her language and own life. Art is a presence and when it reaches immense heights, it’s the manifestation of human permanence. NB, I will need several lives to produce works of such greatness. Meanwhile…
